Shreks Adventure London REVIEW

If you’re looking for fun things to do with kids in London, Shreks Adventure should definitely be on your list. This was our first time visiting, and I wasn’t too sure what it exactly entailed. Was it a ride? A theatrical performance?

In actual fact, it includes all of the above. Right from the very beginning Shreks Adventure is a brilliantly bonkers interactive and immersive walkthrough experience, where the whole family can step into and star in your own hilarious misadventure with Shrek and his DreamWorks friends. You are taken into the departure lounge ready for your trip to the land of Far Far Away. You then begin the journey on a 4D bus journey, driven by Donkey, with special effects and fantastic DreamWorks animation. It is worth noting, due to COVID-19 safety precautions, the bus ride isn’t currently 4D. You are not provided with glasses and there are glass screens placed between the seats. This doesn’t take away from the magical experience, but I would definitely love to return when it is running as normal again!

You are then taken along an exciting and highly amusing adventure through classic sets from the film, which include the Swap, pub and other locations, complete with sounds and some unexpected surprises.

You get to meet some of the famous characters including Princess Fiona, Puss in Boots, Pinocchio and of course, Shrek himself!

Some of the girls favourite parts of the immersive attractions are noted below:

• Getting lost in the mirror maze

• Cooking up a spell at the Muffin Mans House

• Rescuing Pinocchio from the Wheel of Torture

It’s also worth noting, we were unable to meet Cinderella and sleeping beauty today, due to precautions. But of course, like all Shreks movies, the adventure has a very happy ending (Phew!)

Each tour lasts approximately 60-70 minutes. There are no age restrictions, but keep in mind the adventure is very “pantomime like”. It has some sudden loud noises and can be dark and intense at times. If you have a child with a nervous disposition, I wouldn’t recommend it.

You have your photo taken before the adventure begins, after this point photography and filming is strictly prohibited for obvious reasons. They are some photo opportunities before the tour begins and also at the end. You will also find Kung Fu Panda and the team from Madagascar, there’s a meet and greet with Shrek himself, however there is a rope dividing you both at present.

Our Thoughts

I found Shreks Adventure to be an amazing family attraction, because the humour works on every level. It is a wonderful Shrektacular treat for fans and can be enjoyed throughout the year, in all weathers, as it’s indoors. The characters are fantastic in engaging with the audience, they really like to get everyone involved. However, the experience felt a little rushed considering we did a lot of queuing. I’m thinking maybe because some of the characters are not currently involved? I would also really looking for the 4D bus ride, so I will return for that feature!

Important Information

• There is a temperature check at the beginning, followed by bag checks before entering the tour.

• You are in a group of around 12 people. There is boxes on the floor telling you where to stand in each room you enter

• The magical bus ride at present, isn’t 4D

• The time on your ticket is not the actual start of the tour, but the time you’re allowed into the building. You will then be in a queue.
